A Northridge camera store owner accused of involvement in a scheme under which the Los Angeles Unified School District was billed for $300,000 worth of photography equipment that allegedly went to two district employees pleaded no contest to a lesser charge of destroying evidence and was ordered to pay more than $6,000 in fines and restitution. Simon Ong, 41, entered the plea after Los Angeles Municipal Judge Glenette Blackwell dismissed two felony charges of grand theft and conspiracy to commit grand theft. Ong was arrested in May with Steven Kaner, 44, owner of Pan Pacific Camera Center. Kaner is to be arraigned in October.
