SICK HUMOR

Share

Troma, the NYC-based ultra-low-budget movie company that gave us “Surf Nazis Must Die!” and other spoofs, isn’t known for taste. But it may be grasping for a new low: It’s shooting (in Upstate NY) what may be the first movie to feature AIDS in blatantly exploitive fashion.

The film is “War!,” about a group of Americans captured by terrorists when their plane crash-lands on an island “under Cuban rule.” The terrorists, who plan to invade the United States, will first send a “special brigade” of seductive men infected with AIDS to “spread their charms” among American men and women.

At one point in a script obtained by Outtakes, the blood of the “dark, handsome,” AIDS-infected terrorist is mingled with a captive clergyman. Then he rapes one of the captive women, as the script relates. Another runs from her AIDS fate and is “mown down” by machine-gun fire. And so on.

Troma co-owners Lloyd Kaufman and Michael Herz were on location and unavailable for comment at press time. A Troma spokeswoman said “War!” was “basically in keeping” with the anything-goes Troma approach, though she added that it was “not uproarious humor” this time out.

She declined to comment on the AIDS issue.
