Judiciary Committee Hearings on Judge Robert Bork

Share

I’m impressed! In the face of a torrent of some insulting remarks and even some ridiculous criticism, Bork has maintained his cool and already demonstrated “judicial restraint.” If he can survive this avalanche of politically motivated propaganda, he will have earned the confirmation for his appointment to the Supreme Court. From the tone of his inquisition, one would think he had committed serious crimes as a traitor or a wife beater.

But I think this time the local minorities are “Borking” up the wrong tree. Vice President George Bush and the supporters for Bork may “Bushwhack” the headline hunters and the seven dwarfs who are more interested in running for President or for reelection to the Senate than in providing a fair hearing for Bork. I wonder who the liberal camp would prefer for the Supreme Court--perhaps someone soft on criminals like former California Chief Justice Rose Bird?
