The World : Militants Confront Walesa
Militant members of the banned Solidarity union, at a Mass in Czestochowa in southern Poland attended by 100,000 workers, challenged their leader, Lech Walesa, to help create a new strategy against the Communist authorities. Thirty former members of the Solidarity National Commission signed a petition calling for talks with Walesa, who has been accused by some union members of acting like a dictator. Walesa has not met with the group, which sent a protest to government authorities over the banning of Solidarity, outlawed after the imposition of martial law in December, 1981. Walesa said after the Mass that he is ready to meet with the militants.
