“Minority imagery and stereotyping” in the entertainment industry will be examined Friday in Washington during hearings scheduled before the House subcommittee on telecommunications and finance, according to letters of invitation sent late last week by subcommittee Chairman Edward J. Markey (D-Mass.). Invited: several minority actors--including “Miami Vice” co-star Edward James Olmos--and minority representatives from the Screen Actors Guild. The subcommittee will consider the testimony, Markey wrote, in light of “the Federal Communication Commission’s national policies and regulations designed to enhance diversity in the electronic media.”
