Long Beach : Dever Now Semi-Retired

Share

Saying he is happier on the golf links than in the thick of city politics, former Long Beach City Manager John E. Dever has moved to Pleasanton, where he is a semi-retired consultant and general manager of an industrial park.

Dever, 64, said he is advising some of the nation’s largest corporations but would not name specific clients, other than to acknowledge that he is general manager of the Hacienda Business Park Owners Assn. in Pleasanton.

“I’m spending some time on the golf course,” Dever said, adding that his life is “very relaxing.”

Dever resigned Jan. 30 after serving as city manager since 1976. He was widely credited with reversing years of economic decline in Long Beach, although he alienated some City Council members who said he did not keep them fully informed.
