Veteran Western actor John Ireland has been corralled as the new Ponderosa patriarch on “Bonanza: The Next Generation,” a two-hour TV movie. Ireland will play Jonathan Aaron Cartwright, younger brother of Ben (Lorne Green), who runs the ranch after his brother dies. Greene, who died Sept. 11, played Ben Cartwright in the series that ran on NBC from 1959-73 and was scheduled to reprise the role. The movie goes into production Oct. 26 at the Ponderosa Ranch at Lake Tahoe and might become a syndicated series.
