Chad and Libya reaffirmed rival claims to the Aozou border strip but agreed to take part in an independent study of the dispute at the close of an Organization of African Unity meeting on the conflict. After inconclusive talks in the Zambian capital of Lusaka, an OAU committee urged continuation of a cease-fire that began on Sept. 11, and both countries indicated they would maintain it. An OAU communique said legal experts and map makers will meet in Gabon in December to discuss the historical and legal aspects of the countries’ claims to the border area.
