Tenants Say Their Side Was Ignored

Share

You recently wrote about Independence Center, 8220 W. Norton Ave., West Hollywood (Times, Sept. 17). You did not have the courtesy to interview the tenants of 8220 W. Norton to hear their feelings and views on the Independence Center. You only listen to hearsay of Sandy Gordon (president of the center’s board of directors).

As you don’t know, the City of West Hollywood has very few affordable housing units. Independence Center claims they would take over apartment units as they became vacant. Gordon failed to tell you of the harassment that the tenants took from Day 1. The first manager that took the building placed his stereo in the courtyard blasting off the four walls of our building. He had a party where the tenants had to call the police more than once. They harassed two of the older tenants until they were forced to move. Gordon claimed the tenants thought they had a good program. There were no supervisors and no program at all. The children have said it time and again they are bored and wish to leave here.
