Ron Martin; Country Radio Personality

Ron Martin, chairman of the board of the Academy of Country Music, whose “Country Report” radio show was heard on dozens of stations across America, died of a massive heart attack while playing golf, it was reported last week.
Martin was 57 and had suffered two previous heart attacks this year. He was pronounced dead Sept. 22 en route to UCLA Medical Center.
Martin had just begun a round of golf at Mountain Gate Country Club in Sepulveda Pass when he collapsed.
He was serving his second term as chairman of the Academy of Country Music after holding the presidency of the organization from 1978 to 1979.
He was also co-owner of the Weedeck Radio Network, which syndicated country music programming. He produced and hosted the programs “Country Report” and “Country Report Countdown” for his network, which furnished programs for nearly 200 radio stations.
