General Manager Dallas Green of the Chicago Cubs told the city’s fans that the blame for the club’s collapse this season rests with the players, but at least one player found another villain--Green.
“I don’t really feel like he’s done anything,” said catcher Jody Davis. “He gets rid of a pitcher (Steve Trout) in July who threw two straight shutouts, then he says we quit?
“This spring, Andre Dawson was begging him to play and then he had to sign for nothing just to play here.”
Davis spoke out one day after Green accused the Cub players of quitting. “For the last month, all the players have been talking about is their hunting and fishing trips and the damn cruises,” Green said.
