Airliner Flies Within 300 Feet of Military Aircraft

NEW YORK — An Eastern Airlines jet was forced to take evasive action when it came within 300 feet of a military aircraft over Long Island Sound, the Federal Aviation Administration reported Wednesday. No injuries were reported in the Tuesday night incident, which was blamed on a mistake by an air traffic controller.
