Less mayhem, please, we’re British. So said executives from Britain’s two big television networks this week after talks with Home Secretary Douglas Hurd that laid down rules for the amount of violence British television can broadcast. Both the publicly funded British Broadcasting Corp. and commercial Independent Television agreed that they would take a more selective approach to imported TV series and films, particularly from the United States. The BBC has already refused to carry four episodes of the NBC series “Miami Vice.”
