‘Success Goes Sour’ for Coach

Share

I applaud Tokofsky’s efforts and thoughts regarding the teaching profession (“Return Dignity to Teaching,” Op-Ed Page, Sept. 23).

Besides having as few as 12 students “and a dedicated teacher to direct,” chances are excellent that the students were highly motivated to learn and succeed before they were given the challenge of the Academic Decathlon. (By this I do not necessarily mean that they were A or B students, but that they wanted to achieve). In other words, students were taking responsibility for their own learning. The parents of these students were taking responsibility for their student’s education.

Now, all we need to duplicate these efforts statewide is to get the necessary financial and moral support from our state legislators, the governor and the public. We’d be in great shape! How about it?
