Sturgeon Upstages Irvine Lake’s Catfish

Share

While Dimitry Prouzinin commanded most of the attention at Irvine Lake by catching what is believed to be the first white sturgeon ever caught in Southern California--a 6-pound 2-ounce baby that was planted along with hundreds of other sturgeon last week--big catfish have been the regular attraction at the Southland reservoir.

Raleith Burks of Gardena caught perhaps the biggest fish of the week, a 36-pound catfish, and several others caught have been upward of 20 pounds. Jack Jordan of Lake Isabella caught one weighing 22 3/4 pounds, and Sandra Walters, visiting from Missouri, managed to land a 20 1/2-pounder.
