Manhattan Beach to Hold Hearings

Share

The Manhattan Beach City Council will accept written comments until Oct. 15 on its proposed new general plan.

Council members plan to discuss the proposal among themselves at public meetings Oct. 26 and Nov. 6 and 10 and hope to adopt a new general plan Nov. 24.

The council late week finished conducting public hearings on the proposal, which would replace the current plan adopted in 1967.

A general plan outlines development goals within a city. Once it is passed, zoning laws are supposed to be changed to conform with the plan, according to state law.

Most city officials say the plan simply recognizes how the city has developed in recent years, but opponents say the proposal would allow the city to become overdeveloped and current development trends should be halted or reversed.
