Crash Kills Cyclist Pursued by Deputies
A 19-year-old motorcyclist died early Saturday when his machine crashed as he tried to evade sheriff’s deputies pursuing him on Foothill Freeway in Tujunga, Los Angeles police said.
The man, who had been spotted driving erratically, was killed near the intersection of La Tuna Canyon Road and Tujunga Canyon Boulevard, police said. His name was withheld pending notification of relatives.
Deputies spotted the man weaving across three lanes of the Foothill Freeway near the Pennsylvania Avenue off-ramp shortly after midnight. The man pulled his motorcycle to the side of the road but sped away as deputies started to get out of their car, police said.
The man, who was traveling an estimated 95 m.p.h., took the Lowell Avenue off-ramp and crashed into a fence in front of a flood-control channel a quarter-mile past the exit, police said.
