Governor of Maine Doing Well After Hernia Surgery

PORTLAND, Me. —
Gov. John R. McKernan Jr. was reported in good condition after surgery to repair a hernia. The governor received a local anesthetic and was awake during the operation Friday at Mercy Hospital, officials said.
