A New York State judge has ruled that Joey Heatherton’s handbag was searched illegally when she was arrested on drug possession charges.

“Without the evidence, we have no case, so we’ll move to dismiss,” said Rockland County Dist. Atty. Kenneth Gribetz. Ramapo, N.Y., Town Justice Arnold Etelson said the Aug. 30, 1986, search was illegal because the entertainer was not advised of her right to refuse to consent to the search. Heatherton, 42, was arrested after she handed police her pocketbook for identification and police discovered a tin foil packet and a vial containing a white powdery substance.
