Buena Park : 13-Year-old Dies From Injuries in Hit-Run
A 13-year-old Laguna Hills girl died early Sunday morning from injuries suffered when she was struck by a hit-and-run driver along Beach Boulevard near Knott’s Berry Farm.
The girl, Rebecca Sue Ashburn, was with two friends who had crossed the street ahead of her, on their way to the amusement park at 11:43 p.m. Saturday. She was struck by a southbound vehicle as she tried to join them by crossing where there was no crosswalk, said Buena Park Police spokesman Terry Branum.
Branum said witnesses saw the vehicle--a dark blue Toyota pickup with gray stripes along its sides--slow down after the accident but then speed up and head south on Beach, turning west on Crescent Avenue. Branum said several people were in the truck.
Rebecca was taken to Western Medical Center in Anaheim, where she died about an hour later from head injuries, Branum said.
Branum asked that anyone who sees the pickup call Buena Park Police.
