A young Los Angeles man was arrested Monday as a suspect in the drive-by shooting that took the life of 15-year-old Tina Kang as she left a Cerritos birthday party the night of Sept. 26, Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies said.

Alexander Q. Paneda, 19, was arrested in Van Nuys. Homicide detectives reportedly believe that he was the driver of the automobile from which three shots were fired.

Investigators said they were seeking Paneda’s alleged companion, Arnel Manzano Sola, 18. It was not disclosed whether he was thought to be the gunman.

Earlier, a 16-year-old Baldwin Park boy was arrested in the case but was released when officers determined he was not involved. He reportedly was one of two juveniles who had been turned away from the party.

Three shots were fired at about a dozen youngsters outside the home in a usually quiet Cerritos neighborhood. The Kang girl was shot in the back. No one else was hurt.
