Countywide : Dedication Scheduled for Airport Facilities
New aviation facilities at John Wayne Airport’s western side will be dedicated Saturday during an open house that will feature new and antique aircraft exhibits, airplane and helicopter rides and tours of the Federal Aviation Administration’s control tower, airport officials said Monday.
The open house, scheduled from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., marks the relocation of Martin Aviation and other firms from the MacArthur Boulevard or eastern side of the airport to the Airway Avenue, or the western side, where Million Air and the new FAA tower have been for several years.

Tuesday in The Times, a story incorrectly reported the date of an open house and dedication of new aircraft facilities at John Wayne Airport. In fact, the events will be held Saturday, Oct. 17. The same story also incorrectly reported that Martin Aviation was to move to the airport’s west side. Martin Aviation is opening an executive hangar but is not moving the bulk of its operations. The Oct. 17 dedication will be held at the Million Air hangar, 19300 Ike Jones Road, on the west side of the airfield.
The relocation of some flight facilities to the west side is a part of an airport expansion project that will see a new passenger terminal and parking garages built by 1990. The new terminal will occupy land previously used by Martin Aviation and Mission Beechcraft.
