Where are the annual profit figures for the owners? How is it that the average team franchise is now worth $75 million when only 10 years ago it was worth $15 million to $20 million? Even the last-place Green Bay Packers reported profits of over $3 million last year. In other words, guaranteed annual profits, guaranteed capital gains.

The owners have done this on the backs of the players, whom they choose to keep in a form of the ancient, disgraced indentured servitude. The players should be supported in this struggle for basic work rights in a democratic society. The owners can afford to pay for free agency and should be held accountable by the fans.
