Bill Bergesch was fired as general manager of the Cincinnati Reds.
Bergesch, who failed to produce a West Division title in his three years with the Reds, told the Associated Press that an attorney for club majority owner Marge Schott relayed word of the firing, which hasn’t been officially announced by the club.
Bergesch said he was summoned by Schott’s attorney from an organizational scouting meeting in Tampa, Fla., and told he was fired.
The firing came a week after Schott said Bergesch and Manager Pete Rose would be back next year.
