The threat of a protest at Spanish-language TV station KMEX because it planned to resume airing liquor commercials prompted station officials to call a meeting today with the Center for Science and the Public Interest and its local supporters. Station officials at KMEX recently acknowledged that plans to air such commercials were imminent. The move, said protest organizer Ray Chavira, would break a self-imposed ban on liquor commercials that English-language TV advertisers continue to maintain. Still, Chavira welcomed KMEX’s offer to meet, adding that the protest scheduled for Saturday has been postponed to Oct. 31.
