Dads-to-Be Beeped When It’s Time
Pregnant women in this southern port city can borrow beepers from the telephone company so they can page their husbands when the big day arrives, the Swedish national news agency TT reported Wednesday.
The beepers are provided free of charge two weeks ahead of the scheduled birth date to women who show a maternity certificate, officials said.
“This is a good service. Sometimes the birth goes very fast. By giving the fathers beepers, they do not miss the big moment,” said Helena Andersen at the Central Maternity Ward.
The program was begun last week by the state-owned National Telecommunications Administration and the publicly financed Central Maternity Ward in this city about 360 miles south of Stockholm.
