Striking Out at Both the Owners and Players
Gene Upshaw is to the players what (Robert) Poli was to the Air Traffic Controllers--a detriment. If he is really interested in their welfare, he should step down and let them hire a professional negotiator. Had one been retained to begin with, he would most likely have advised the players not to jerk the fans, owners and advertisers around over something as ludicrous as unlimited free agency.
