The boredom factor--not spin-off possibilities--led to early check-outs for “Hotel” stars Michael Spound and Heidi Bohay after they’d served four-plus seasons on the ABC series.

During their rise into the hotel’s exec suites, Dave and Megan Kendall endured law school, drug addiction and miscarriage. In their final episode last weekend, they were off to a new life--and a baby--in San Diego, him with a law firm, her toiling for the St. Gregory’s sister hotel.

But this wasn’t the usual spinoff--it was part of an attempt to rescue the Aaron Spelling hour from its continuing Nielsen slide from the top 20 to a low of 59th this season.

Explained a show rep: “The characters were written into a corner. We’re trying to focus on (everybody’s) romance and bring the show back to the lobby.” So look for some sexy characters at the plush St. Gregory--along with schizophrenia, grandparents’ rights, date rape and impotence.
