SHOOTING AT KANSAS FROM THE HIP
Dennis McDougal writes that Kansas is “no place to conduct show biz on a long-term basis” (“Toto, I Don’t Think We’re in Hollywood Anymore,” Oct. 4).
I’ll bet the majority of Kansans who put up with the Hollywood mentality during the filming of “Kansas” will agree with him.
The “sophisticated” movie company seems to have been amused by the natives who saw an opportunity to make money for their state from the filming. Sure, the movie business brought some glamour to the area in some of the natives’ eyes, but a lot more saw the visitors as rude, arrogant workers.
George Litto, David Stevens, etc., could have learned something very valuable from the people of Lawrence, and that is grace . How do I know? Because I was there visiting at the same time, but, thank God, not with the movie company!
