COLLEGE FOOTBALL : Pacific 10 Roundup : Arizona State Rolls to a 38-7 Win Over Washington State

Darryl Harris rushed for 105 yards and a touchdown, and Eric Allen returned an interception 92 yards for another score as Arizona State beat error-prone Washington State, 38-7, in a Pacific 10 game Saturday night at Tempe, Ariz.

The Sun Devils led, 26-0, at halftime en route to improving their record to 4-2 overall and 1-1 in Pac-10 play. Arizona State was beaten by Washington, 27-14, last week.

Washington State lost its fourth straight and fell to 2-4 overall and 0-2 in the conference.

Allen’s interception return was the third-longest in Arizona State history and the longest ever allowed by the Cougars. The senior cornerback stepped in front of Washington State split end Tim Stallworth and raced untouched along the sidelines for a 17-0 lead 2:47 into the second quarter.

Washington State avoided a shutout when Timm Rosenbach threw a seven-yard touchdown pass to Victor Wood with 1:24 left in the third quarter.

Ford completed 12 of 21 passes for 174 yards with 1 interception. Harris, a senior tailback who had 15 carries, moved into ninth place on the school’s all-time rushing list with 2,126 yards.

Arizona 31, Oregon St. 17--Freshman quarterback Ronald Veal rushed for 142 yards and a touchdown and completed 15 of 23 passes for 203 yards as the Wildcats beat the Beavers at Tucson.

Arizona is 3-2-1 overall and 1-1-1 in the conference. Oregon State fell to 2-4 and 0-2.

The Wildcats ran up 550 yards in total offense, their best ever in Pac-10 play.

Oregon State quarterback Erik Wilhelm finished with 28 completions in 55 attempts for 318 yards and 2 touchdowns.
