Amateur World Series Set for Italy in 1988 : 1988 Amateur World Series Set for Italy
The 1988 men’s Amateur Baseball World Series will be held in Italy.
Gil Bosch, president of Puerto Rico’s Baseball Federation, said Italy was one of four international game sites set through 1991 by delegates representing 26 federations of the International Baseball Association (IBA).
The decision was made Sunday during by an IBA Congress in Havana, Cuba.
Bosch, who just returned from Cuba, said the 1990 Amateur World Series will be held in Canada. Two Intercontinental Baseball Cup events, considered warmups to the Amateur World Series, will be held in Puerto Rico in 1989 and Spain in 1991.
The IBA Congress coincided with the current Intercontinental Cup being played in Cuba. Participating teams are Aruba, Canada, Cuba, Italy, Mexico, Nicaragua, Taiwan, Japan, South Korea and the United States
Bosch said Cuba, Taiwan, Japan and South Korea are favorites in the competition that ends Oct. 28.
