Fullerton : Outdoor Art Exhibit Will Become Permanent
Cal State Fullerton’s art department has received a federal grant to convert a temporary outdoor art exhibit into a permanent structure.
The National Endowment for the Arts donated $7,155 so that the exhibit, called “Wall Gazing Gallery,” can be made into a lasting structure. The work by Richard Turner has been on campus since 1983 but faced being dismantled.
“Wall-Gazing Gallery” has been described as “a bleacher-like structure covered with a corrugated iron roof that trickles water into a shallow pool.” Turner said the work reflects Oriental values and experiences.
The work is popular with students, said art department officials, who added that it has never been defaced during its four-year outdoor stay in the campus’ Visual Arts Center.
Work to make the exhibit permanent begins in November and is expected to be completed by February, the university said.
