A Tijuana man was killed early Sunday when he attempted to retrieve tools from the trunk of his car and was hit from behind by another car, then dragged more than 100 feet, authorities said.

The driver of the other vehicle, Homer Lee Laster, 31, of San Diego, was arrested on suspicion of manslaughter and drunken driving, police said. Laster was being held in County Jail on $10,000 bail, a jail spokeswoman said.

The victim, Carlos Hugo Contreras, 29, was hit at 2:10 a.m. as he was attempting to retrieve tools from the back of his car, which was double-parked on Imperial Avenue, officials said. The victim was pinned between the two vehicles, then run over and dragged along the street, according to the coroner’s office. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
