France’s River Memories defeated Sadjiyd by a head at Woodbine in Toronto and became the first 3-year-old filly to win the $761,500 Rothmans International, Canada’s richest thoroughbred race.
River Memories, who flipped Chris McCarron out of the saddle just before the race, came from the rear of the 12-horse field and moved to fourth at the top stretch before outdueling Sadjiyd and Sir Harris Lewis.
Sir Harry Lewis, the Irish Derby winner, finished third, a half-length behind the runner-up, in the 1 1/2-mile race over the Marshall turf course.
