Two rapes were reported in Encinitas within a 10-day span, but were not related, said Sheriff’s Sgt. Bob Scanlon.

The first incident occurred last Thursday at about 4 a.m. in an apartment complex near the sheriff’s substation on El Camino Real, one block north of Encinitas Boulevard.

The front door to the apartment had been deadbolted but the rapist is believed to have entered through an unlocked living room window, Scanlon said.

He said “a good set” of fingerprints were taken of the suspect.

The second rape took place on Oct. 6 at 9 p.m. at a fast food restaurant in the 2000 block of El Camino Real, Scanlon said.

The rapist attacked a woman who worked there and then robbed the business, escaping with $55 in cash, he said.
