Fries Entertainment, a TV production company, plans to turn the Sagon Penn San Diego shooting case into a mini-series. “The Sagon Penn Story” is in the research and development stages, said Gary Kessler, vice president of TV movies for Fries. Penn, a 25-year-old black man, was charged in the March, 1985, shooting of two white police officers, one fatally, and a civilian. Travis Clark, a TV writer now in San Diego interviewing key players in the case, said the movie was being developed for NBC. Kessler refused to say how much Penn would be paid for participating with the film company. San Diego Police Chief Bill Kolender said he wasn’t aware of any film project on the case, and would oppose any such project.
