NFL Players’ Strike: The Battle Continues
Anyone trying to read large, moral questions into the National Football League players’ strike should be arrested immediately as a danger to himself. The NFL is a unique entity, with very few parallel characteristics to anything in our everyday world.
What we had here was a comic-opera struggle between the young and the silly, and the old and the steely eyed over loot. A one-month pillow fight: the semi-rich vs. the super-rich. Given the ground the players chose to fight on, the outcome was never in doubt. But then, jocks have never been known for their cerebral processes. That’s why they have coaches and agents. When such an obvious, pretentious fraud such as Todd Christensen gains a reputation as a jock intellectual, you know this field is pretty barren.
Now, of course, it’s in the hands of the lawyers, a place reasonable people always try to avoid. Come to think of it, it’s where both sides deserve to be.
