Hermosa Studies 4-Day Work Week
Hermosa Beach City offices would be closed on Fridays under a proposal before the City Council.
The council is expected to vote on the Teamsters Union’s proposal at its meeting Tuesday. City Hall is now open from 8 a.m. to noon and from 1 to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Under the union’s proposal, it would be open from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday.
A public survey conducted by City Hall of 416 “city services users” showed that 70% of the respondents favored the four-day-a-week schedule, which would keep city offices open during lunch. Only 175 preferred the current schedule.
Parking enforcement and animal control would still be provided seven days a week.
Non-sworn police service officers have been working four-day weeks since Sept. 5 on a six-month trial basis.
