Marcos Associate Pleads Guilty
The husband of a self-proclaimed mistress to exiled Philippine President Ferdinand E. Marcos pleaded guilty today to nine counts of bank and bankruptcy fraud.
Sergio Villagran, 51, husband of Dovie Beams de Villagran, a former B-movie actress, entered his guilty plea moments before a federal district court jury in Los Angeles was to be selected for trial. He and his wife were charged in a 42-count indictment alleging fraud. Villagran also pleaded guilty to concealing $6 million in artwork from creditors during bankruptcy proceedings. His wife is scheduled to stand trial later.
