Despite protests from Canadian opposition parties and anti-nuclear groups, a U.S. Air Force B-52 carried an unarmed cruise missile over icy northwest Canada today to test its guidance system.

“It’s all going smooth,” Maj. Jan Martinsen of Cold Lake Canadian Forces base in northern Alberta said after the 9:31 a.m. start of the 4 1/2-hour test, conducted under a 1983 agreement between the two governments.
