Williams Will Make Debut for Clippers Tonight Against Hawks

Former Georgetown basketball star Reggie Williams will make his pro debut tonight when the Clippers play the Atlanta Hawks in a National Basketball Assn. exhibition game at Memphis, Tenn.

Williams, the Clippers’ top draft pick, signed a three-year contract with the club last week. Coach Gene Shue said, however, that Williams won’t start tonight’s game because he is still learning the plays.

Guard Lancaster Gordon, recovering from off-season knee surgery, won’t make the trip but rookie center-forward Joe Wolf, who has been sidelined with a pulled groin, will accompany the team.

The Clippers (2-3) will play the Hawks again Thursday night in Huntington, W. Va., before returning home. They will close out their exhibition schedule Sunday with a game against the Seattle SuperSonics in Bellingham, Wash.

Meanwhile, the Clippers say they have made no progress in negotiations with their four unsigned free agents: forwards Michael Cage, Kenny Fields, Tim Kempton and Earl Cureton.
