Five people were injured, two critically, when a drunk-driving suspect rear-ended an RTD bus Friday afternoon in Boyle Heights, authorities said.

The Route 30 bus was stopped at a traffic light at 1st and Breed streets and the signal had just turned green when a speeding car slammed into the bus, Sheriff’s Sgt. Norris Solomon said.

The motorist, whose name was not immediately available, faced booking for investigation of felony drunk driving because his passenger was thrown from the car and injured, Solomon said.

However, Los Angeles City Fire Department spokesman Jim Wells said both the driver and passenger were taken in critical condition to County-USC Medical Center. Three people riding the bus were treated for minor injuries at White Memorial Medical Center, Wells said.

Investigators at the scene said the auto was apparently traveling an estimated 80 m.p.h. when the accident occurred.
