Jason McGehee showed a homecoming crowd at Huntington Beach High School Friday night why he’s considered one of the top running backs in Orange County, leading the Oilers to a 35-6 victory over Marina.

McGehee scored three times, first on an 11-yard run in the second quarter, then on a 42-yard run in the fourth quarter, and again in the fourth quarter on a 1-yard dive.

With his running-mate Skip Murray out with a broken leg, McGehee had 156 yards in 19 carries. It was his eighth straight game over 100 yards.

“We knew we had to establish the run,” Huntington Beach Coach George Pascoe said.

Eric Pettinato, the Oilers’ junior quarterback, helped out in the first half as he completed 5 of 8 passes for 91 yards as Huntington Beach (5-3, 2-1) took a 21-0 lead. Pettinato finished 7 of 12 for 114 yards. Senior tight end John Apostle caught 3 passes for 39 yards, and sophomore wide receiver Doug Cunningham caught 2 passes for 48 yards.

Marina (1-7, 0-3) finally scored in the fourth quarter. Sophomore quarterback David Schultz hit senior running back Jeff Robbins with a 10-yard pass for the Vikings’ first score in Sunset League play this season.
