Indiana Stops SDSU in Men’s Soccer, 3-2

Ken Snow’s goal with 17 minutes remaining in the first half Saturday snapped a 2-2 tie and carried No. 1-ranked Indiana to a 3-2 victory over No. 8-ranked San Diego State in a Met Life Invitational college soccer game at UCLA.

Indiana (16-2) snapped San Diego State’s eight-game winning streak.

Gerardo Jimenez and Chris Keenan scored first-half goals for San Diego State (14-4), which twice rallied from one-goal deficits to tie the score.

The Aztecs had allowed only two goals in their previous eight games.

San Diego State concludes play in the tournament at noon today against Notre Dame. The Fighting Irish (14-2-1) lost to host UCLA, 3-2, Saturday. UCLA is 11-5-1.

In other games:

UC San Diego 2, USD 1--Scott Rommel scored two goals, the second with 11 minutes remaining, to give UC San Diego (12-5-2) the victory over visiting University of San Diego. After Rommel’s first goal, Eric Deutsch scored for USD (11-5-2) to tie the score, 1-1, at halftime.

In women’s games:

St. Mary’s 4, USIU 0--Desi Engle scored a pair of goals to lead St. Mary’s (16-4-1) at United States International University. Kim Lautrup and Danielle Wulftang added goals as USIU lost the first of two games it played Saturday.

USIU 1, Cal Poly Pomona 1--Christin Harking scored eight minutes into the second half to give Cal Poly Pomona (9-5-2) a tie in a game that was called after regulation play because of darkness. Erin Patterson had given USIU (5-12-1) a 1-0 lead on a penalty kick at the 22-minute mark of the first half.
