The World : Guard Kills Panama Judge
A justice of Panama’s Supreme Court, Camilo O. Perez, 58, was shot to death at a Panama City office building during a struggle with a security guard, police said. Juan Miguel Godoy Hernandez, 18, admitted shooting Perez but said he fired in self-defense after Perez approached him wordlessly and began beating him and waving a pistol, according to a police statement. Perez’s son, attorney Mauro Perez, called the security guard’s story “strange” and “unacceptable.” There was no immediate explanation of why Camilo Perez was at the office building early Saturday, in the city’s banking district. The police statement said the investigation was finished, but Godoy Hernandez remains in custody pending a review by federal justice authorities.
