A Texas judge has ordered rock star David Bowie to appear in Dallas County district court Nov. 12 to determine whether he should be tested for the AIDS virus. Judge David Brooks issued the order at the request of a 30-year-old woman who has accused Bowie of sexually assaulting her at his Dallas hotel room Oct. 9. “It is both ridiculous and outrageous that this woman, who I met at a party in Dallas . . . and spent the evening with, brings these false and outrageous accusations,” Bowie said in a statement. The woman has tested negative for exposure to the virus that causes AIDS, said her attorney, Robert Rose. “Basically, she wants to know if he’s got it,” Rose said. “It’s an entirely reasonable request.” The woman told police Bowie assaulted her after she spent most of the early morning hours of Oct. 9 with him at a party. An affidavit filed in the case claims that Bowie, in Dallas for a concert, told the woman he had just given her AIDS.
