Share

A Canoga Park man was ordered Tuesday to pay $2,637 in fines and restitutions after pleading no contest to taking fees for work as an immigration and foreclosure consultant without performing the services, City Atty. James Hahn said.

The plea of no contest has the same effect as a guilty plea but cannot be used as evidence in a civil trial.

Ken Tompkins, 51, was also placed on three years’ probation by Los Angeles Municipal Court Judge Maral Kirakosian. During his probation, Tompkins will be prohibited from working as an immigration and foreclosure consultant.

Tompkins was accused of accepting $650 from a woman to handle her bankruptcy, then failing to provide the service he promised, Hahn said. He also was accused of taking $400 from an illegal immigrant who had hired him for help in obtaining amnesty, then failing to provide that service.
