Cleveland is rolling ahead with plans for the official Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Museum, despite the announcement of plans for a rival hall in San Francisco. Initial estimates for the museum: $35 million to $40 million. Architect I.M. Pei is scheduled to present a design and cost estimate for the undertaking on Dec. 3 to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Foundation’s board of directors, who already have raised $5 million. Meanwhile, a San Francisco developer claims he has received sponsorships for a rival museum from several benefactors, including Apple Computer founder Steve Wozniak. But Cleveland officials are calm. Said one: “Our intention remains to build a world-class facility for an internationally significant institution. The success of other museums will be measured against us.”
