Police Officers Honored: Six Newport Beach police officers were honored at the department’s annual awards luncheon Wednesday for acts of heroism and exemplary service. Officer Mark Everton became the 12th recipient of the department’s medal of valor, instituted in 1972, for saving the lives of three young men in a burning car wreck last August. Awards of merit went to Officers William Barnett, Robert Oakley and Stan Bressler, Reserve Officer Jan Paul Anderson and Lt. Timothy Riley.
