Local News in Brief : Red Tape Delays Projects
Two major commercial developments in Gardena have been delayed by snags in the planning and development stages, officials said.
Construction of the $56-million Eldorado Center office and hotel project at Redondo Beach Boulevard and Vermont Avenue is being held up while bond and financial documents are being redrafted, city officials said.
Delayed since its ground breaking in May, the Eldorado Center is “definitely going to go ahead” once the documents are redrafted, said City Manager Kenneth W. Landau.
The project, to include an 18-story hotel and 10-story office tower next to the Eldorado Card Club, is expected to provide the city with $500,000 a year in increased tax revenues when completed in January, 1989, he said.
Meanwhile, public hearings on the Gardena Normandie Plaza shopping center project, on Artesia Boulevard between Normandie and Vermont avenues, have been delayed because of changes in the scale and design of the project, said city planner Roy Kato. The changes included reducing the size of a planned office building from three stories to two, reducing the size of a restaurant and eliminating underground parking.
